Ripley House was built about 1720 by Henry Pawley and had later additions added to it with the final extension been completed in the 1840s. Pear Tree cottage, on the right was orgnially built as the Coach House.
Walking back towards the centre of Ripley you will pass the Talbot Hotel. Dating back to before 1570 the present frontage dates to the 18th Century but concels the 17th century timbers. The Inn or hotel was an important stop for stage coachs and was used as a post house for many years when people often travelled between London and Portsmouth Docks on horseback. The orginial stables can still be seen at the side of the hotel.
