Béisbol Biblioteca Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

LiefPhotos: I have been notified that the container has been utterly and completely trashed. Unfortunately, I suspect that if I were to replace it, this would happen again due to the nature of this location. Therefore, I am regretfully archiving it. Thanks to everyone who took the time to do this puzzle and log this cache.

Geocache Description:

A puzzle and cache devoted to the national pastime!

The actual cache is NOT at the above-listed coordinates! However, that would be a good place to play ball during the summer. The actual cache is within one mile of those coordinates. To find it you must solve the following baseball-related puzzle.

NOTES:

1. Any answers involving uniform numbers refer to the one worn by the player while playing his home games at "The World's Largest Outdoor Insane Asylum". If a player had multiple uniform numbers during that time, use the one that he wore for the most seasons.

2. Unless otherwise indicated, for all answers involving numbers you should add the digits together until you are left with a single digit. For example, 157 = 1+5+7 = 13 = 1+3 = 4.

Plug your answers into the following:

N 44° 3A.BCD W 123° 0E.FFG

A. The rightmost digit of the year during which the All-Star Game was held at "The World's Largest Outdoor Insane Asylum".

B. One less than the sum of the digits in the uniform number worn by this irascible yet shrewd Hall of Fame manager, who holds the record for the most ejections in American League history.

C. One plus the sum of the digits in the uniform number worn by this Hall of Fame slugger nicknamed "Steady Eddie".

D. Rightmost digit in the uniform number worn by this Hall of Fame player who was the only person to hit a home run out of the "The World's Largest Outdoor Insane Asylum".

E. With runners on second and third base, the batter hits a fly ball to deep center field. The center fielder races back to the warning track to make the catch, and fires the ball to the shortstop. The shortstop then relays it to the catcher who tags out the runner trying to score on the play. Sum of the number of digits in scoring the putout at the plate. (Do NOT include the number of outs!)

F. Both digits of the uniform number worn by the baseball pitcher nicknamed "El Presidente".

G. Sum of the digits in the uniform number worn by this Hall of Fame player nicknamed "The Human Vacuum Cleaner".

You can check your answers for this puzzle on Geochecker.com.

The container is an ammo box. In keeping with the theme of the cache, please trade only baseball-related items (such as baseball cards). Please hide the container as well (or better) than the way you found it. The hike may be muddy during winter and spring, so we recommend sturdy shoes or hiking boots.

The cache contains the following fine baseball books. I have read all of them multiple times, and decided to pass them along. Please feel free to take one, making sure that the remaining books are in sealed plastic bags to protect them against the elements. If you take one, please be sure to mention it in your log so that I can update the list accordingly.
