Giebichenstein (Stoeckse)
Der Giebichenstein ist ein großer eiszeitlicher Findling. Er ist
seit langem eine Sehenswuerdigkeit in der Gemeinde Stoeckse im
Landkreis Nienburg/Weser. Der Giebichenstein ist Bestandteil des
Stadtwappens von Stoeckse.
Ein Findling, auch Erratischer Block genannt, ist ein heute
meist einzeln liegender sehr grosser Stein, der durch Gletscher
waehrend der Eiszeiten in seine heutige Lage verdriftet
(transportiert und abgelegt) wurde. Er unterscheidet sich in
Groesse und Zusammensetzung von dem Gestein in seiner Umgebung. Die
Grosse der Findlinge variiert von kleinen Kieseln bis hin zu
grossen Felsen. Sie koennen ueber einige 100 km transportiert
worden sein. Die Findlinge sind waehrend der vorletzten großen
Vereisungsperiode in Nordeuropa, der Saale-Eiszeit (vor 240.000 -
125.000 Jahren), an ihre Ablagerungsstellen verdriftet worden. Die
aus dem Norden vorrueckenden saalezeitlichen Eismassen brachen in
Skandinavien Gesteine aus dem Untergrund heraus. Die norddeutschen
Findlinge bestehen in der Regel aus Granit, also magmatischem
Tiefengestein aus Feldspat, Quarz und Glimmer. Der Giebichenstein
in Stoeckse ist mit einem Gewicht von 330t der groesste Findling in
Niedersachsen und einer der groessten Findlinge in Norddeutschland.
Sein Alter wird auf mindestens eine Millarde Jahre geschaetzt.
Um diesen
Earth Cache zu loggen muesst ihr, wie bei allen Earth Caches,
beweisen dass ihr auch tatsaechlich vor Ort ward und etwas ueber
die Erdgeschichte gelernt habt.

und beantwortet
per Email die Frage, wie gross der Umfang des Steins (groesste
Moeglichkeit zu messen) ist.
Achtung: Bitte gebt keine Hinweise zur Lösung in euren Logs!
Logs ohne Foto oder korrekte Antwort werden geloescht!

Giebichenstein (Stoeckse)
The Giebichenstein is a large glacial erratic block. Since long
time it has been an attraction in the village of Stoeckse in the
district of Nienburg/Weser in Lower Saxony. It is so famous that it
is still part of the emblem of the village Stoeckse.
A glacial erratic block is a piece of rock that deviates from
the size and type of rock native to the area in which it rests; the
name "erratic" is based on the errant location of these boulders.
These rocks were carried to their current locations by glacial ice.
They can be found many miles away from their place of origin.
The boulders of Lower Saxony were carried to their actual
locations during the penultimate major icing period in Northern
Europe, the Saale-ice age (240,000 - 125,000 years ago). The
advancing ice from the north cut out rocks from the ground in
Scandinavia and carried them to the north of Germany. The north
German boulders normally consist of granite. Granite is an igneous
rock and is formed from magma. The Giebichenstein in Stoeckse has a
weight of 330 tons and is the biggest boulder in Lower Saxony and
one of the largest in whole north of Germany. It is estimated to be
more than one billion years old!
