Benchmark Challenge I Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Geocaching HQ Admin: Because logging benchmarks on Geocaching.com is no longer possible, Geocaching HQ is archiving challenge caches which require finding and logging benchmarks. See this release notes thread for more information.

Geocache Description:

The benchmark is the forgotten cousin of the caching world. Your profile will show how many you logged, but they do not add into your total finds. They can be set up as a waymark, but at least in our neck of the woods, waymarking has not really caught on. Many of these benchmarks were placed in the 40's and many haven't been visited in 20 or 30 years. They are often not that easy to locate and many have been destroyed. You will also find the coordinates posted for benchmarks are not all that accurate. So it always bothered me you don't really get much credit for finding and logging benchmarks, other than getting another icon on your list of finds.

So here's the challenge. Find and log 10 or more benchmarks and you can log this challenge cache.

The final is at the published coordinates. Depending on the day of the week you visit, you can park at the Oak Rite lot nearby or across the street at the church. The hide is along the hiking trail in Plainfield that uses the old railroad right of way. The container is a camouflaged lock 'n lock. Since we're trying to give benchmarks some love here, there is a Valentine's Day pathtag in the cache for the FTF prize.
