Lord of the Puzzles Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

crs98: As always, whenever I archive my caches, I like to explain how they were solved. In this case the hints in the title of "Lord of the Puzzles" that was dedicated to FrodoB should have made you realize that this was a Lord of the Rings themed puzzle.

The puzzle was solved by realizing that the various chapters in the books that constitute the series were listed in the cache description in order. If you substitute the numbers of the chapters in for the chapters, it spells out the solution to the puzzle.

Geocache Description:

This puzzle is placed in honor of master puzzle solver FrodoB. With over 1200+ puzzle solutions to his credit (as of this writing), he truly is the lord of the puzzle cache.

The cache is not at the coordinates above. You can determine the location from the story below. FTF prize is the pin in the cache.

Last night, I was on a journey in the dark after work. Sitting in traffic, I was homeward bound, but making no progress in any way, shape or form. I was hoping dinner would be ready, but alas there was nothing in the fridge. Sigh…off to the grocery store the wife, kids, and I go to find our evening’s repast.

Arriving at the grocery store, we parted ways, with my son looking for a shortcut to mushrooms, onions, and other vegetables. My wife and I relived the last debate of the election as we wandered around the store looking over piles of herbs and stewed rabbit (of all things) that was being served at the deli counter.

Gathering our dinner fixings in hand, we left the check stand with our bags in hand. As we walked by the window on the west wall of the grocery store, we saw my wife’s best friend from high school and stopped to talk for a bit. We conversed for a while, offered many partings to each other and made a flight to the Ford through the rain that had developed overhead while we were shopping. We talked in the car about how we were glad that the shadow of the past transgressions of my wife’s friend with her illicit lover seemed to be over. We looked forward to many meetings with her in the future.

We drove home past the forbidden pool—swimming was on nobody’s mind in the winter. The old forest closed in around the car in the inky black night as we meandered up the country road towards our house. Treebeard moss drooped from all the trees on the side of the road. A long expected party win in the elections was the talk in the car as we finally pulled up into the garage. The conversation quickened as we cooked and then finally ended as we all ate—nothing like good food to quiet talkative mouths.

Congratulations to rodgowdy and aviatrix22 for FTF and to FobesMan on first to solve.
