I've driven by this lake countless times over the years and have always wanted to explore this tiny isle. I finally set foot on the island today with my good friend who had a pair of kayaks and thought it would be a perfect place for a geocache.
The unique thing about this place is that it's probably one of the few places were you'll find an island located within an island. In fact, another friend of mine said that many years ago there used to be a small pond at the island's high point, and within that pond was yet another tiny island. :)
A boat or kayak is needed to reach this cache. It's only a short .3 mile paddle out to the island from the Campbell Lake boat launch. A good landing point would be at the northern tip of the island at N48 26.376 W122 36.995. From there, you'll have to hike up a steep slope which can be pretty slippery in some places. At the summit, you'll find a unique view of the lake and Mt. Erie.
The cache is a large 50 caliber ammo can hidden somewhere on the southern hillside. Good luck!
