Geocache Description:

This is a quick cache located at Brackett's Landing Park along the Sammamish River Trail in Bothell. Brackett's Landing is a half-acre park which provides shore access to the Sammamish River. It also has a decent barbeque grill, two newly-replaced picnic tables, a riverside bench...and, now, a geocache. Park hours are from 8 a.m. until dusk.

By the year 1876, eight families had settled along the banks of the Sammamish River. That same year, Canadian lumberman George Brackett bought land and launched a commercial logging operation, floating his logs into the river from the north bank near what is now 101st Avenue NE. The logging camp became Brackett's Landing, where a sawmill eventually rose. Logging would be a mainstay of the local economy until the early 1910s.

Brackett sold 80 acres to David Bothell, who in turn sold his first building lot to the local postmaster in 1888. When asked what the post office should be called, the postmaster said, "There are so many Bothells in town--that's a good name, so let's call it Bothell." Bothell was officially incorporated one century ago on April 14, 1909.
