Helmshore Riverside Walk 3, is a magnetic nano geocache located next to the River Ogden in the Rossendale Valley.
The River Ogden arises from the Grane Valley, it travels through Helmshore before reaching the River Irwell at Irwell Vale.
The cache is located near to the Memorial Gardens in Helmshore. The Memorial Gardens were given by the Poritt family in memory of those who gave their lives in the Great War. The central feature is the clock tower. Near to the Memorial Gardens there is also a play area.
You can follow the river downstream to Irwell Vale - on the footpath which runs past the Memorial, alternatively - you could walk into Helmshore - where there is the Textiles Museum. There is also a cafe located across the road from the museum. There are other options for walking in the area - such as the hills nearby, and also the reservoirs on the Grane Road.
If you decide to follow the river downstream to Irwell Vale - please note that there are UNGUARDED STEEP DROPS - so please be careful, and it would be best to hold hands with children.
The footpath can also be very muddy at times. The footpath downstream is not suitable for those with prams - wheelchairs or mobility problems.
There are other geocaches so you could combine this with others.
The cache is located near to a road - Please be careful. You may also need to use stealth.
