Geocache Description:

A nice short 30min walk around a growing wood in the flat lands that is Fenland.

A nice short 30min walk around a growing wood in the flat lands that is Fenland. If you get chance to go in the Autumn there are some wonderful apple trees that my kids love to pick from, if the cache is on your left follow the track around to the right for approx 50m and they are on your left. Its good for all weather but be aware that if you go out when it is wet you may end up a little muddy. Also be aware of the right side of the car park as you enter.....its gets a little slippy after alot of rain lol, our car got stuck for a little while as we had gone too far right!!! Hope you enjoy it!! :-D Dont forget to look for the tree dedicated to Audrey and Barry. A predominately ash, field maple woodland, Gault Wood was planted on an arable field between December 1994 and February 1996 entirely by volunteers, (The friends of Gault Wood) as part of the Cambridgeshire Woodland Fund project. The wood is situated in the heart of the Fenland just on the edge of the clay island that the town of March developed on. The surrounding landscape is predominately intensively managed arable with little obvious wildlife interest. There is some less intensively managed land to the south where a golf course has been developed and some of the surrounding arable is under set aside. Gault Bank after which the wood is named forms the southern boundary of the wood this bank and deep ditch is ancient in origin and has a line of veteran willow pollards planted along it.
