Borghetto
Borghetto è un piccolo nucleo di insediamenti sorto nel 1400 attorno ad una serie di mulini ad acqua, per la molatura del frumento e la pilatura del riso, in un punto particolarmente felice lungo il corso del fiume Mincio.
I mulini, funzionanti fino alla metà del XX secolo, dopo alcuni decenni di abbandono sono stati restaurati ed adibiti ad attività commerciali. L'impianto del piccolo centro conserva i tratti tipici dei gruppi di mulini ad acqua "natanti", diffusissimi per secoli nei fiume di pianura.
La depressione, tra le articolate colline moreniche dominate dalle strutture castellane di Valeggio sul Mincio, è sempre stata importante luogo di transito e successivamente naturale confine tra l'area veneta e quella lombarda. I più antichi reperti testimoniano di un villaggio palafitticolo dell'età del bronzo.
Dell'epoca basso-medioevale assume contorni mitici la leggenda di Papa Leone Magno che, bandendo il crocefisso, blocca la devastante marcia di Attila. E' in epoca tardo-medioevale tuttavia che Valeggio, con il sottostante Borghetto, diviene importante cerniera tra la signoria veronese degli Scaligeri, i mantovani Gonzaga ed i milanesi Visconti. Il castello del XIII secolo è un nevralgico caposaldo veronese e sovrintende il transito sul ponte fortificato, il 'Ponte Visconteo' sul Mincio, proprio a fianco delle case di Borghetto.
Molto visitato è ora lo spettacolare gruppo di edifici storici di Borghetto, in particolare durante le settimane dei Mercatini di Natale.
Da vedere l'interessante Chiesa di San Marco Evangelista, dedicata a Santa Maria, di fattura settecentesca su precedenti strutture romaniche. Sul ponte che conduce alla chiesa una targa ricorda San Giovanni Nepomuceno, protettore dei fiumi e dei ponti.

Borghetto
Borghetto is a small group of settlements built in 1400 around a series of water mills for grinding wheat and rice pilatura, in a particularly happy along the river Mincio.
The mills operated until the mid-twentieth century, after decades of neglect have been restored and used for commercial activities. The installation of the small town retains the typical features of the groups of water mills "boats", diffusissimi for centuries in the river plain.
Depression among the hills morainic articulated structures dominated by the castle of Valeggio Mincio, has always been important place of transit and natural border between the Veneto area and Lombard. The oldest finds evidence of a village-dwelling of the bronze age.
Of low-takes mitici medieval legend of Pope Leo the Great that banning the crucifix, block the devastating march of Attila. E 'in the late medieval period, however, that Valeggio, with the underlying Borghetto, it becomes important link between the worship of the Scala of Verona, the Gonzaga of Mantua and the Milanese Visconti. The castle of the XIII century is a crucial cornerstone veronese and oversees the transit through fortified bridge, the 'Bridge Visconteo' Mincio on, right next to the houses of Borghetto.
Much is now visiting the spectacular group of buildings of historical Borghetto, particularly during the weeks of Christmas Markets.
To see the interesting Church of St. Mark the Evangelist, dedicated to Santa Maria, on the eighteenth of the bill earlier Romanesque structures. On the bridge that leads to the church a plaque recalls St. John Nepomuk, patron of rivers and bridges.
