This cache has been archived.

Kosh Naranek: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the immediate future, just contact one of your local reviewers and assuming it meets the current guidelines, it can be unarchived.

Who remembers the "Red Cars"... don't everyone speak up at once.

Well I do...

When I was a just a lad, my mother and I rode the train from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Los Angeles to visit my Aunt Laura down in Bellflower, California. After we arrived at Union Station, we boarded a "Red Car" and went on to Bellflower. Compared to that noisy train we just got off of, those electric cars were so quiet and smooth except when we'd cross one of the overhead wire junctions and a BIG spark would pop out! Great fun for a 5 year old boy. Well that was 1923, and I remember it like it was yesterday.

Fast forward to today, and guess what I ran across...? There just happens to be a little bit of "Red Car" history right here in Baldwin Park, California...

This is the Baldwin Park Substation of the Pacific Electric Railway. The "Red Cars" went all over the southland and this was one of the stops along the "San Bernardino Line" which serviced communities from LA to San Berdoo: Alhambra, El Monte, Baldwin Park, Covina, San Dimas, La Verne, Pomona, Claremont, Upland, Fontana, etc. This substation was built in 1907 and was in use until 1950, when the "Red Cars" were taken out of service.

I think some of the "old timers" in the area like Cool Pops and Uncle Jon may remember those "Red Cars" and may even ridden them if they were lucky enough.

Anyway, enjoy this bit of local history. I think they are in the process of restoring this old building like they did recently to the Bellflower Station.

Oh BTW, if you are into it, there's a nugget of gold for the FTF- have fun and play safe.

Mahalo nui loa. Aloha, NineSix
