Morup ett litet samhälle med gamla anor. Inte en sten

Morup a small village, with a long history, on the countryside of
Halland. To get the cache you do not have to move any stone!
Namnet kommer troligen från mo, som betyder jord av finkornig
sand, och torp. Orten omnämns första gången 1177
som Mothorp. Den lokala dialekten kallas morpekanska. Morup kom
under medeltiden att tillhöra Esrums kloster på
Själland, Danmark. Ärkebiskopen Absolon utfärdade
1177 ett intyg om klostrets äganderätt. Ön Anholt
tillhörde Morups församling fram till 1500-talet då
ön fick en egen kyrka. Kyrkan är en tegelstenskyrka som
uppfördes på 1200-talet. Tegelstenskyrkor är
ovanliga i Halland. Under början av 1800-talet byggdes
långhuset och koret ut och kyrkan vitkalkades. Området
kristnades tidigt, troligtvis under 900-talet. Morup kan då
ha varit en central plats i området. Bolämningar finns
ca 500 m öster om kyrkan och några hundra meter
nordväst om kyrkan. Det finns anledning att tro att det fanns
gårdsanläggning i området under sen vikingatid och
tidig medeltid. I Morup har funnits en gästgivaregård
sedan lång tid tillbaka, troligen sedan 1600-talet.
The area was during the 12:th century mentioned as Mothorp. Morup
was a property belonging the the monestry Esrum at Själland
Denmark. The island Anholt was a part of Morup's parish until the
island got an own church in the 16:th century. The church at Morup
is a brick church. Chruches build of bricks are not so common in
Halland. The church was altered during the early 18:th century with
a bigger mainhall and choir. The church was white plastered during
that reconstruction. The area was christianized probably as early
as during the 10:th century. Old living remains have been found
east and north of the church. It is likely to believe that there
has been an estate from the viking age and the beginning of the
medievel period in the vicinity. An inn from 17:th has also been in
the village.
