A viewpoint a little off the beaten track over looking Boglily Braes
Boglily is a corruption of Bogley. The Bogley stone was to be found to the North of here. It was fairly impressive but has been moved to make way for an open cast mine and is in storage. It stood over 2 metres high and marked the site of a battle against the Danes in AD874 although human remains dating over 4000 years old have been excavated. This cache is hidden on the top of a steep escarpment which YOU DO NOT NEED TO CLIMB UP !!! I recommend parking in the Beveridge Park car park N56 06.302 W003 10.198 From the car park walk around the park in either direction and follow the signs for woodland walks and the milldam. At a path divide N56 06493 W003 11.222 go right uphill. A few metres on, turn south uphill on a faint leafy path N56 06.490 W003 11.161 Fallen trees add interest to your route. Head straight uphill to the top of the escarpment and enjoy the view. The alternative route here is from Boglily Road (B925) where there is a path entrance at N56 06.516 W003 10.971 However parking is impossible here. This area is popular with nature loving underage drinkers so CITO would be appreciated. Please return as you came and not down the escarpment. The path leading eastwards round the quarry edge that suggests a shortcut actually leads to some-ones garden. Ive moved the cache to a new spot and updated the coords. Its nearer the edge of the quarry cliff, so keep an eye on kids and dogs. Ive included a spoiler photo to help. The cache site is at the base of a tree beside the large long mound of earth that hides the houses from the woods.
