Science Mission Wherigo Cache

This cache has been archived.

Let's Look Over Thayer: [:(][:(][:(] End of an era. [:(][:(][:(]

I have decided that the time has come to end this Science Mission. Over the course of seven years, this Mission has contributed much to the world's knowledge of watrymes, dzungrass and sayerite.

This cache has always been a relatively low traffic cache. The fact that is not a quick find and the limitations and bugs of the WhereIGo platform both conspired to keep the find count low. But since it was San Diego county's first WhereIGo cache and for awhile, San Diego county's only WhereIGo cache, I kept it going. The number of people who came up to me at events and gave great reviews was also a motivation to take the time and trouble to maintain it.

But with instant WhereIGo and ReverseWhereIGo caches popping up like mushrooms and traffic on this cache declining, I've come to the conclusion that continuing to maintain it is not justified by the traffic.

All waypoints (including the remains of WP2) and the ammocan have been removed from the field of play.

Many thanks to all who gave this cache a try and many more thanks to all who had a kind word to say about it.

Geocache Description:

Greetings Space Explorers! Today's mission is a science mission to the planet Beta Aquila Prime.

On this mission, you'll be exploring an unsurveyed part of the planet and taking data on new rocks, plants and animals that you encounter. But, as you explore, please be careful. There may be hazardous conditions that could threaten your life. Use your sensors, experience, and safety equipment to keep yourself safe.

The cache is not at the posted coordinates. With the cache archived, I have removed the link to the cartridge. You will also need a Whereigo compatible device on which to load and run the cartridge. You can learn more about Whereigo at WhereIGo.com. Have fun on your adventure.

A couple of handy hints that may help you on your adventure.

  1. Be sure to calibrate the compass on your GPSr before starting.
  2. Make sure that you are starting with fresh batteries. If your GPSr runs out of juice in the middle of the adventure, you'll have to start over.

The current WhereIGo cartridge is v1.3. Prior versions are obsolete and cannot be used to complete this adventure.

Note: This WhereIGo cartridge may be incompatible with some versions of the iPhone PiGo player. If and when the problem is identified, a new version of the cartridge will be uploaded.
