Enjoy this secret gem of a park, a project of Waimea Outdoor Circle. Wrapped around the wandering Waikoloa Stream, this 10-acre preserve, whose name in Hawaiian means "a garden of trees", was acquired in 1999 when the first improvements were started.
The park is continuing to be enhanced so every time you visit there will be something new. Pick up the interpretive brochure, which contains the park map and listings of the many native Hawaiian plants you can enjoy there. Check out the Waimea Outdoor Circle website for more information and how to participate. Recently they have added FREE WI-FI within the park!
This is a great place to kick back and enjoy a few minutes or an afternoon. Open daily 8:00am to 5:30pm.
NOTE: The coordinates above are NOT the location of the cache, but those of the parking lot.
To find the cache, you first need to peruse the park to find five native Hawaiian species of plant and note down the numbers next to their name plates (example above right). Then, substitute those numbers for the names, do a little bit of math, and remove the braces "{}" to reveal the final cache location. No multiplication is needed, just a simple addition at the "+" sign:
N 20° 01.{Poha}{Ma‘o hau hele}
W 155° 40.{‘Akia+Popolo}{‘Ulei}

While you're in the area, also try to find the Ulu La‘au Mini nearby.
