Geocache Description:

Jeffrey's Mount is a small 378m fell on the West side of the Lune Gorge, its is a great viewpoint for the Howgills,Tebay and the Borrowdale fells.
I don't know the origin of the name of the fell nor does the eighty year old farmer I spoke to who lives at Roundthwaite.

The fell gets scarcely a mention in Wainwrights Howgill fells though it can be seen in one of the photograghs up the Lune Gorge. It is not mentioned at all in his 'Outlying fells.'

I always look at this hill when I'm passing through the Lune Gorge, it's not very big but there's something about it that makes me have a look.

It can be climbed from several locations the most common being from Roundthwaite via the public bridleway which gives access to the common fell land.
Access can also be gained from the same bridleway in Borrowdale or from a gate on the A685 near the disused quarry which give access to the very steep South side of the fell.

A great way to the top is via the North Borrowdale ridge walking up the Borrowdale valley and returning along the ridge, giving you access to several other caches.

It is recommended to park vehicles in the car park on Pikestone lane 300m from the junction with the A685, where there is a public notice board showing access to the fells. It is then a short walk along the lane to the bridleway and the field gate giving access to the open fells.
Once through the field gate follow the quad bike track to the summit where there is a small cairn.
A walk south east to the lesser top gives great views of the Howgills and the Lune Gorge.

The cache is a 0.33litre screw top plastic container. It is hidden away from the summit in an obvious hidey hole. It is suitable for small swaps and TB’s only.

***There is no need to turn stones over to find the cache, if in doubt read the clue and see the spoiler picture.***

Please abide by the country code and be suitably equipped for the fells.

Enjoy your visit to this wonderful little fell top.
