Agios Yeorgios
Wile researching our
series "The Elements of Paphos" we happened upon this beautiful
little church on the outskirts of Choulou village.
It was an early February morning. Water trickling still along the
steep road down to the church after the recent rainfalls,
everything looking fresh and newly laundered. A few almond trees at
last getting their finery out, and the humming of happy bees among
its flowers mingled with birdsong and distant sounds from a farm
down in the valley.
A nice old lady on the way to work her field stopped to worship in
this holy building, that has well preserved remnants of what were
evidently some very old murals. The church, which is dated 1480,
has been carefully renovated and has a nice little icon in a
recess.
We could not resist sharing this wonderful site with you all. The
doors are not locked, only fastened with a wire.
