Geocache Description:

The usual micro, hidden in the usual way. We all hate these, but the cache wasn't placed here for its difficulty, rather just to attract people to the town and the view. Parking may be difficult. You can park up the street, but you'll have to walk down a few blocks to get to it. Watch out for muggles.

This cache is part of the “Downtown / Main Street USA" series. Please visit the cache that started it all - Downtown / Main Street USA: Edison, NJ. Here you will find the latest count of caches in the series and find out how you can add your own.

Wharton, which was originally named Port Oram, a port on the Morris Canal, was established in 1895 from portions of Randolph and Rockaway Townships.
In 1826, Joseph Wharton was born to a Quaker family. When he got older, he bought a portion of Bethlehem Iron Works. His business interest expanded, and he bought several railroads involved with coal and iron trade. He also bought iron furnaces near Port Oram. He sold his interest in Bethlehem Iron Works in 1901, and made a big business smelting iron in Wharton before his 1909 death. The town was named after him as a namesake in 1902.
Today, Wharton measures 2.2 square miles. It has a nice pizzeria, library, and memorials for just about every war (we think). If you need a good cut of meat for a cheap price, try going to the meat packing place just across the pond. Good luck! mnadler&son
