Mitigation Traditional Cache
grossi: I stopped by to take in the wonderful view and pick up the cache this afternoon. Despite the mitigating circumstances surrounding its creation, this is still a sweet little park. Many thanks to all seekers of this hide over the past few years.

This simple cache is meant to highlight Kayu Kayu Ac Park, a recently developed two-acre park that was constructed at the Richmond Beach Pump Station. This new park features a play structure, swings, picnic tables, benches, a grassy play field, and a restroom. There is also a viewing platform to help visitors appreciate the wonderful view of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, and the nearby BNSF Railroad. Shoreline parks are open from dawn to dusk, and this particular park has a gate which is locked at dusk.
The City of Shoreline obtained a 50-year recreation easement on this parcel of land from King County as mitigation for impacts from the Brightwater Sewage Treatment Project. In the mitigation agreement between the City of Shoreline and King County, it was agreed that the County would provide $750,000 of mitigation funding for City of Shoreline community improvements. Most of the mitigation funding was designated for the creation of this new city park.
Following a request for name suggestions from the community, the park was named Kayu Kayu Ac. This name is a common Native American term that was used to describe the Richmond Beach area as well as the native plant kinnickinick. Originally platted in 1890, Richmond Beach was planned as a destination resort town with a train depot, hotels, and other services catering to tourists and residents. However, Great Northern Railway did not grant the little town a depot until 1907, long after the first hotels were built.
