This cache sits on one of the sheltering hills that create the Oley Valley and your approach to it will offer a broad sweeping view of this valley. The area has the distinction of being the only entire township in Pennsylvania listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The district encompasses most of the Oley Valley, a rural farming landscape, remarkably preserved, with the village of Oley at its center.

The Valley’s History starts with the Lenpae tribe of Indians who gave the Oley Valley its name, met at the Scared Oak Tree and then mysteriously all disappeared in the middle of a single night. The European settlers arrived in the early 1700s and for the most part lived peacefully with the Native Americans, farming the rich landscape. Among these early settlers were the great-great grandfather of President Abraham Lincoln, and the parents of Daniel Boon. During the revolutionary war and George Washington’s encampment at Valley Forge, Oley farmers sent large amounts of food grown perhaps in the very fields you will walk along as you search for the cache. The history of the valley seems to stay alive partly through the legends and ghost stories that flow freely from the area

But maybe it’s not history that has brought you to the Oley Valley perhaps you are here for a meeting of the Reading Motor Cycle Club and decided to do a bit of geocaching on the side. The Valley has been the home of the Club since 1914 and this rural community welcomes you.

If not the Motor Cycle Club then perhaps you are here to attend the annual Oley Valley Fair, and a side trip of geocaching is always fun. The Oley Valley Fair is the last true profit free community fair in the United States. The Fair will celebrate it’s 65th anniversary in 2011, and every September sees the Fairgrounds come alive with various prize wining flowers, produce and livestock raised by the people of the Oley Valley. The traditional Pennsylvania Dutch food, the special entertainment and rides on the midway will add to the memories the fair creates for you and hopefully bring you back each year.

What ever it is that brought you to the Valley we welcome you and hope you enjoy our geocache while you are here. The cache is a traditional ammo box and the owners will be keeping a close watch on it. Coins or travel bugs that stay for more then 60 days will be picked up by the owners and moved on. We’ve started the cache with several trackables that we have gathered and an inactivated Geogem for the FTF to take. We would like this trackable inn to represent the valley in a unique way but we will not require reservations.
