In early 1998 the RMSAR team was tasked to respond to the
Thornhill (or Grant Hill) area after a nearby resident spotted what
appeared to be a plane crashing near the top of the hill.
We conducted a thorough sweep of the entire top of the hill, with
teams going in from Grant Ave, 264th Street, 256th Street and 262nd
Street. After an exhaustive search throughout the night, working
northward down the embankment to the properties below and finding
nothing, and then consulting with the local RCMP, the search effort
was suspended. No person was ever reported overdue, and no signs of
a person in distress were found.
The cache itself is located on what we refer to as the "North
(or Ridge) Trail". This foot trail runs between the
telecommunications compound on 256th to Thornhill Trail.
Parking and access can be found at the top of 256th if the gate
is open, at the corner of 264th street and 103rd ave, the east end
of Grant Ave, or off of Ferguson Ave. Access is NOT available from
108th or Cunningham.
The trail DOES come out at the fenced compund on 256th (sorry
PEARLWIND) but it is a bit tough to find. It runs along the
fenceline on the north side.
This cache is not recommend for night caching due to the nearby
escarpment. It is an ammo can that while not readily visible from
the trail, it is within one metre of it. No bushwacking
required.
Congratulations to pirates_and_princesses for the
FTF!
