Geocache Description:

This hunt will take you to Clam Harbour Provincial Park on Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore. Although the park is known for its white sand beach, there are some spectacular hiking opportunities "down at the other end" that most people miss out on. There is no charge to enter the park and it is open from May to October. You may visit the park at other times of the year but no services are provided and you have to walk a little further to get to the beach.

For this hunt, you should plan for a 6.5 km hike (return). First quarter is sandy beach. Second is over fairly rough trails through peat bogs and a few forested areas and over coastal barrens, pebble beaches, and bedrock. The trail is not marked but is obvious as it follows the shoreline. Third follows the beach and is quite rough going. The last can be a challenge depending on how you approach it. The route is generally flat with a few steep scrambles up and down to negotiate. Be sure to bring a camera!

To get there, follow Highway 7 from Musquodoboit Harbour to Lake Charlotte and follow the signs to the park. In the off season, park at the waypoint provided at the end of the old road (a few hundred meters past the "only" park entrance). Once parked, proceed to the beach and turn left when you get there. Walk to the end of the sand and follow the obvious trail along the coast.

The cache is a camouflaged plastic container hidden near a large glacial erratic.
