Geocache Description:

Hello… At the coordinates listed above, you will find a regular sized cache on the north west side of an un-named 975 ft knoll, let's call the knoll “Costello”. Since its easier to get to Abbott, it's nearby neighbor, you sort of need to do Abbott and “Costello” The hidden cache is approx a 1.25 mile hike from the listed parking spot and only approx 3/4 mi from Abbott Mt (1060ft)

===== Location Details =====
This cache was placed on Sunday Feb 8th 2009 and is within the boundaries of the Newfield Wildlife Management area. The cache is actually located in Shapleigh Maine . This is a public area that is regularly travel by hikers, trekkers, mt. bikers, dog walkers, but the access trails to the peak have largely been banned to motorized transportation due to extensive and continued erosion. Some of the roads around the base of the mountain have vehicle travel restrictions (i.e. Pitts Road), though there are still many open and managed trails that provide multiple access points. Seeing as it was placed w/ several inches of snow on the ground, it should be accessible throughout the year.

In my opinion, the views from these summits are some of the best around in the local area and the family and I have been enjoying them year after year ever since I was first made aware of the view back in 1998

This cache is located near a wide angle scenic vantage point that continues to provide spectacular views, especially in the fall with all the foliage in color. The White Mountains are clearly visible. Wild blue berries have been enjoyed in these woods as well.

There is no real establish trail to this cache from the main trail, so some bush whacking will be required. From the summit of Abbott Mt, or from Grey road parking location 1 You can use THEANTIPAG cache GC1MH22 (N 43° 35.964 W 070° 50.164 ) as a way point. Once at the destination cache, you can retrace your steps to return or you can bushwack without too much trouble back to Grey Road parking

===== Cache details =====
The cache is a typical 50mm painted ammo can 6 x 7 x 11” , which is suitable for most trade items.
BYOP just to be safe.

This cache initially contained a spiral bound logbook ,a one-time-use 35mm camera to capture the first 24 or so finders (let me know when it is used up), some kids toys & games, kids DVD/VHS movies, CD-Rom games for kids/toddlers , local bluegrass music CD from several years ago plus some other misc items. I also released a new travel bug item into this cache.

Please make sure the lid fully snaps back on to keep things dry and re- hide well, but naturally!

===== Author Notes =====
I hope you enjoy the hike to this one and also the find the other caches that have been recently placed in this area. This was the second of two new caches I placed today and only my 3rd placement to date. Don’t forget the two other older caches on the north and south side of Abbott mountain when all combined they should make for a fun afternoon of Geocaching and hiking. I suspect more caches may be placed in the future.

Special thanks to GC’rs THEHIWAYMAN, IAMSURVIVORMAN for helping to break a snowshoe trail (up hill and down) in the deep heavy wet snow to place this cache. It was perfect day for the snowshoe trek . … 88seriesiii
