The Location:
Here was once a farm in what an old photo calls "The Meadows" (a once-common term for riverside fields). It is now reverting to woods. Red-tailed hawk, even peregrine falcon and bald eagle now hunt the field and river.
Come enjoy birds, deer, and flowers. Grants support a biological survey and trail preparation, perhaps someday restored wetlands? Stay tuned.
At the start of July 2006, the Department of Public Works began preliminary clearing along the blue-tagged preliminary trail route around The Meadows downstream from Donaldson Park. The first part cleared was the 'field trail' across the central fields of The Meadows into the woods by the Crowells Road stream. This is not a finished or managed trail, but is now broad and clear enough for workers to get in and make further improvements and adjustments of the route.
The site exhibits significant biodiversity. Documented are 100 native plant species, over 60 bird species, a dozen species of invertebrates, six species of mammals, and three species of herptiles, on, or in the proximity to the site.

The Hunt:
You are seeking a small green and black Lock & Lock container which is hidden off the trail nearby a nice view of the Raritan River, the Route One bridge, and Loews Theaters.
A trailhead is posted for a nice nature walk. Thorny and poison plants are in the area. The trails may be wet especially if the river is high or during flooding periods.
