This cache has been archived.

Nomex: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

This is the second in a series I am putting together highlighting areas in and around Tracy that have a ghost story or legend attached to them. I do not claim to have done detailed research to verify the accuracy or legitimacy of these accounts… after all that is what legends are all about right?? If you want to add an element of excitement, try hunting these caches at night... if you dare.

THE BYRON INN:

The Byron Inn is now a creepy, old, abandoned building way off of the beaten path in a small town just outside of Tracy. In its hay day however, this was reportedly an exclusive Hotel where Hollywood stars would often stay when they needed respite from the chaotic Hollywood lifestyle.

Aspiring ghost hunters and other witnesses report a variety of activity from full body apparitions of an old man in white rags and a little boy running up and down in the hallways, to mysterious hot and cold winds, dragging noises in the building and much, much more.

The cache itself is large enough for many small to medium-sized travel bugs and a variety of trade items, but be forewarned that the entrance itself looks pretty spooky and has a lot of graffiti, suggesting that it may be used as a hangout at times. The cache is outside of the gate so before the area that reads “No Trespassing”, but we saw several groups of people beyond the fence. We ventured past the gate ourselves and walked far enough down the dirt road to see the Hotel off in the distance. I will post some pictures of the general area to give you a feel of what you will see. I am assuming that the road beyond the gate is indeed private property, but in researching this cache, I read many posts of locals, the curious and paranormal investigators alike who have actually walked the distance up to the old abandoned hotel building and have traipsed around. That one will have to be your judgment call.

When placed, the cache contained a $1.00 bill for the FTF, a Strawberry Shortcake hackie sack, a plastic shaker gadget, a Cars mini-frisbee, and a magic towel. Please bring your own pen.

CONGRATS TO DALE BRYANT AND CRZ4GT FOR FTF!!!
