Geocache Description:

A traditional cache placed in a rather remote area of the Mojave Desert east of Minneola Ridge.

We came out to this area to nab one of Mr&MrsWisearse's mystery caches and brought one of our own along in case we found a good spot to place one. The area where we ended up is fairly pristine desert. Very few folks have been out here lately, although there is an old over-grown road that takes one out into this area. The trick is finding that road; once you find it, it's hard to stay on it, because in a lot of places it's not very visable. In fact, where Gophertrax and I parked our 2WD Isuzu and started our hike, was at least .3 miles east of the road we thought we were still driving on. I believe we could have driven a bit closer if we hadn't lost the road. You see, in a lot of places the road is a wash, and if you don't follow the right wash, you lose the road. Trax had way pointed a few spots along the road, off the topo maps on our computer before we left, and we still ended up losing the road. We ended up hiking 1.3 miles to the mystery cache and an additional half mile to where we placed our cache. We like to hike though and thought that was a good thing. If you don't like to hike, you'll want to make sure you stay on the road. I would suggest a little topo homework before coming out to this one. It's definately out in the middle-of-nowhere. There are some nearby cliffs that I'm sure are home to Bighorn sheep. There have also been Cougar sightings in these mountains around Minneola Ridge, so be wary.

This area of the Mojave Desert would be really hot June thru August. You wouldn't want to breakdown way out here any time of the year. Bring plenty of water and maybe an extra spare tire. Watch out for all the normal desert critters, and also range cattle, as we saw some fairly fresh cow pies. The cache container is a 30 Caliber size ammo box hidden in a typical geocaching rock pile. Bring along your camera as there are some great photo ops in this section of the desert. Unfortunately, we didn't get many photos the day we placed this cache, as a snow storm hit us just before we got to our Bosom Gap cache location. We still managed to place the cache, but it was a cold hike back to the car. Enjoy!!
