Well, OK, this is no tropical paradise. In fact it is a wild, scrub brush filled, steep sided, muddy island, with scatterings of poison ivy and lots of burrs. Do not attempt this cache during freeze up or break up.
The first stage of this cache is a small peanut butter jar hanging up in a tree, above the most probable flood levels. It contains only the coordinates to the final container. The second, and final stage, is a large peanut butter jar, tucked in a tree, which contains a logbook, a pencil, and of course an FTF certificate for the initial finder. In summer the best approach is to launch a canoe from the little park in South Headingley on Roblin just west of the train bridge. The trip back from the island is a hard paddle in Spring flows, but easier later in the year. One could continue on to the boat launch area at Camp Manitou, or to the service road on the north shore at the Perimeter, or to the South Assiniboine Canoe Launch area in Charleswood, in order to not have to fight the current. In winter it is an easy jog across from Hermitage Rd. off of Roblin, or from the ball diamond area at John Blumberg. If walking over from Hermitage, there is a gravel walkway at the end of the street that leads to a cairn near the riverbank. Enjoy. My kids had a great time placing the cache, but we did it while the river was very solid. Once again, do not attempt this cache during freeze up or break up, unless your helicopter pilot is lowering you down to the cache.
