Follow the ski trails to the north, then pick up the old tote roads that can take you up to the summit. You’ll be following Gage Brook for the first mile or so. The route is described on the ADK web site here – link. We recommend reading the part about a lightly used herd path, as it cuts off quite a bit of walking. The orange paint has faded, but someone has added some blue blazes along that section.
Why the name? When placing the cache, there were lots of deer tracks in the snow, and evidence that several had been bedding down nearby.
The cache is about 40 yards off of the tote road and is a camouflaged vitamin bottle, placed to be accessible in all seasons. There’s room for small trade items such as geocoins, and a gold dollar for the FTF. Tree cover may interfere with your reception, so turn on your geosense as you search.
A map of the Rec Center ski trails is on the Lake George Village web site, at link. Click here for a map of our track along the southside route – link.
CONGRATULATIONS TO RichardE ON THE FTF!
