Geocache Description:

The cache is a cammo'd container made to blend into its surroundings. Please handle with care to preserve its camouflage.

For all of you that are under the age of 20 you probably don’t remember ever having to wait to see a photo that you had just taken. Yes, there once was a time when you actually needed to load a camera with film and not a memory card. The nice little cache container called, “35mm film canister” were used to hold the cartridge when it was outside the camera. The cartridge was what was loaded into the camera and held the actual transparent plastic material, called celluloid, that had various coating on it that would capture the image of the picture that you were trying to take. Each time you took one picture you would have to advance the film reel to the next part of the film roll to take another picture. After all the film was used up you would then have to take the film cartridge to a photo processing center where it would be developed and printed. In the dark ages this could take a few days and depending on how long it took you to used the whole roll of film, you may not even get to see the picture you took for months! Then a brand new and amazing technology was developed – the 1 hour photo!

These small little parking lot kiosks, like the yellow one here, were all over the place in the 70’s and 80’s. One could drive up to the window, drop off your roll(s) of film and come back in a couple of days to pick up your photographs. After the revolutionary 1 hour processing was started, the photo kiosk’s demise was in sight. The bulky equipment needed for the 1 hour processing could not fit into the small little area of the kiosk. Now most of the kiosks that are still in place are converted to various small service centers for things like keys, flowers, watch batteries or like this one, a smoke shop.

Every time I see one of those parking lot kiosks with someone sitting in it looking bored to death, I wonder if that person knows why these small little buildings exist.

Many times of the day this is a busy area, especially in the mornings, so please use stealth when retrieving the cache. Also watch for vampires in the area!
