I've Seen Deeper! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

RKOwen: Passed the cache today while hiking down the Deep Gulch trail and found that GZ was gone! The cache was in the hollow at the base of a tree on the trail's edge. Apparently in the last 3 months the tree broke off just above the base and toppled into the gully.
The cache was one of the first on this trail and served its purpose to attract other caches like gold attracts more gold to the old Norse dwarf Andvari.
The hint had reference to a steel cable that draped around the base of the tree. At one time it was an anchor for something.
Time to archive this cache and let someone else place a new cache somewhere nearby.

Geocache Description:

A camo 35mm canister hidden along the Deep Gulch Trail. The GPS accuracy was only 20 ft due to the shady coverage, but the hint will give it away. No need to leave the trail.

The 1.2 mile Deep Gulch trail lies to the south slope of Deep Gulch in the Almaden Quicksilver county park. The gentler English Camp Trail lies on the northern slope. However, all the trails starting at the Hacienda entrance include steep sections, so you'll just have to tough it out since it's worth the effort to experience the beauty and history of this unique county park. This is one of the first trails I hiked up when I first moved into the area over 15 years ago.

Stop for this cache, catch your breath, then continue upward.

It's called Deep Gulch ... I've seen deeper.
