The cache is hidden along a quiet trail in the Hummel Lake Preserve on Lopez Island.
This easy 0.7 mile trail runs between the Hummel Lake Preserve parking lot at N48 31.015 W122 53.515 and Port Stanley Road at N48 31.023 W122 52.965. The trail winds through Cedar Groves, young Douglas Fir, and Alder to the east. Parking is available at either end, and the western trailhead is near GCNGRR - A Hummel Collectible, lake access, picnic tables, and a toilet.
The Preserve is part of the San Juan Islands Land Bank and was made through the acquisition from three different previous owners to make the Preserve. Friends of Hummel Lake maintain the trail and are active in restoring lake water quality, including mowing the “weeds” in the lake. Bring a pole (and a license) since each year the Lopez Island Lions Club stocks the lake with Trout.
