So begins the letter
inviting you to Lower Fort Garry's first
Historic Hunt! Since 2007, the Stone Fort
has provided great GPS experiences on-site! Bring your family and
friends for an afternoon that combines thrilling geocache hunts
with learning about Manitoba's rich history and
culture.
DATE: Sunday, July
26th, 2009
TIME: 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
THE DAY'S FUN
SCHEDULE:
1:00 PM: Geocaching
and GPSr Tutorial. Approx. 30 minutes, near the Picnic
Shelter. Come learn about what geocaching is all about and how to
use your GPSr, or one you can borrow from us!
1:30 PM: Meet and greet in the
Picnic Shelter. As fellow geocachers arrive, talk about
what we like best - geocaching!
2:00 PM to 3:30 PM: Start of the
Historic Hunt! At the Picnic Shelter, cachers will be
sent off on one of six paths to discover the Fort and race to find
the site's six geocaches!
3:30 PM: Awards ceremony at the
Picnic Shelter. Come back to relax in the shade with
fellow cachers as we award prizes for the first, second and third
place teams!
ALL DAY
ACTIVITIES:
- Participate in a GPS Tour of the fort: a calmer,
relaxing way to see the site using your GPSr.
- NEW interactive exhibit. Learn about the great
fur-trade era fort in our brand new, high-tech exhibit in the
Visitor Reception Centre!
- Sample our delicious new restaurant. Located in
the Visitor Reception Centre, our restaurant is open to serve
you!
- Find out what kind of traveller you are. Our
Explorer Quotient project, now in its third year, will recommend
which specialized activities at the Fort you may enjoy
most!
- Participate in the historic actitivites of the
fort. On this day, there will be a Puppet Show to see, a bannock
workshop to attend, as well as a regular orientation
tour.
Geocachers who come to Lower Fort
Garry as part of this event will be required to pay the regular
admission fee.
Adults: $7:80
Youth (ages 5-17): $3.90
Children (under 5): FREE
Seniors (65 and better): $6.55
Families (2 adults and up to 5
children): $19.60
