Geocache Description:

Dear Messr. and Madame Geocacher,
I trust this letter finds you well...

So begins the letter inviting you to Lower Fort Garry's first Historic Hunt! Since 2007, the Stone Fort has provided great GPS experiences on-site! Bring your family and friends for an afternoon that combines thrilling geocache hunts with learning about Manitoba's rich history and culture.

DATE: Sunday, July 26th, 2009
TIME: 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM

THE DAY'S FUN SCHEDULE:
1:00 PM: Geocaching and GPSr Tutorial. Approx. 30 minutes, near the Picnic Shelter. Come learn about what geocaching is all about and how to use your GPSr, or one you can borrow from us!
1:30 PM: Meet and greet in the Picnic Shelter. As fellow geocachers arrive, talk about what we like best - geocaching!
2:00 PM to 3:30 PM: Start of the Historic Hunt! At the Picnic Shelter, cachers will be sent off on one of six paths to discover the Fort and race to find the site's six geocaches!
3:30 PM: Awards ceremony at the Picnic Shelter. Come back to relax in the shade with fellow cachers as we award prizes for the first, second and third place teams!

ALL DAY ACTIVITIES:

  • Participate in a GPS Tour of the fort: a calmer, relaxing way to see the site using your GPSr.
  • NEW interactive exhibit. Learn about the great fur-trade era fort in our brand new, high-tech exhibit in the Visitor Reception Centre!
  • Sample our delicious new restaurant. Located in the Visitor Reception Centre, our restaurant is open to serve you!
  • Find out what kind of traveller you are. Our Explorer Quotient project, now in its third year, will recommend which specialized activities at the Fort you may enjoy most!
  • Participate in the historic actitivites of the fort. On this day, there will be a Puppet Show to see, a bannock workshop to attend, as well as a regular orientation tour.
