Details:
The Mau'umae Trail starts at the top of Maunalani Heights.
The trail entrance is across from 4970 Maunalani Circle, Honolulu,
HI. The No Entry sign refers to the Board of Water Supply
area behind the fence. The entrance to the trail is just to
the right of the signs below.
Trailhead
The cache is located at the Kainawa'aunui Summit (Elevation 2,520
ft) which is located 3.5 miles from the trailhead. It took us
about 2.5 hours to get to the top another 1 hour at the top and 2
hours to descend. The hour at the top can be used to have
some lunch or continue to the higher Lanipo Summit (Elevation 2,621
ft). This trail is very much like a roller coaster, constant
ups and downs both on the way up and the way down. The trail
is slightly overgrown so I would recommend wearing long
pants.
