Geocache Description:

Does anyone remember when Atlantic Playland, was Atlantic Speedway? This is cache # 1, of a series of old, or present race tracks in Nova Scotia. I am a big Nascar race fan, and wanted to put out some caches with race themes. Please try to trade even with race swag.ALSO be careful of the overgrowth in summer and what might be under foot, hence the terrian rating ....... CAUTION

Congrats to Mr_Warhead for FTF :c)

Atlantic Speedway, Hammonds Plains, NS
Years in Operation: 1970-1980
Track Configurations: 1/2 mile paved oval

Putting out a nascar racing theme cache, I thought what better place here in the Maritimes to place a cache, other than one of the best 1/2 mile paved oval tracks in the region of yesterday.

Atlantic Speedway on the Lucasville Road, and the site of today’s Atlantic Playland, was the top racing speedway in the region in 1977. Atlantic Speedway was open from 1970 - 1980. I can barley remember as a Youngster going to this track. Turns 1 and 2 are now parts of the Playland go cart track as seen in the picture above.

The owners were very aggressive promoters. Evel Knievel even performed at this track. The event was to be a match race, featuring Knievel, car dealer Bob McDonald, ATV sports director Leo MacIsaac and Al Hollingsworth. To add to the color, CJCH morning host, Jerry Lawrence was to call the race.

You can still find a few old race cars, in the area of the cache
