This cache has been archived.

Icarus.: I'm not able to repair or replace this cache as requested by the reviewer because it's an event cache; so I am archiving. I may organise another CITO type event on Steep Holm later in 2010.

Thanks to all who came and made it a really enjoyable day........

Steep Holm

Sailing times confirmed by the Trust (13 Apr 2009)

Confirmed bookings: 31

(10th July 2009)

The Kenneth Allsop Memorial Trust, owners of Steep Holm have kindly allowed us to privately charter the Bristol Queen for us to help CITO the island. Apparently, the gulls bring most of the rubbish to the island from the mainland.

Places are strictly limited to 80 people on a first come first served basis. As we do not have the required numbers this trip has now been opened up to the general public. Most publicly offered sailings get fully booked, so we should make up the numbers ok. Please check back here for updates.

Sailings to the island are very weather permitting, and frequently get cancelled; often at short notice. If sea conditions do cause a cancellation then you will have the option of re-booking for another date, or having a full refund.

Sailings leave from Knightstone Causeway, a short distance from the Winter Gardens where the Mega event is being held.

At least one adult must accompany children ( 5 -16 yrs). No animals are admitted.

The terrain is rough, with a pebble beach, and steep access paths to the plateau. There is no landing jetty, and you will need to be sufficiently agile to negotiate a gangplank from boat to beach and vice versa (sometimes in fairly choppy seas). Berrow Cachers and Icarus have made the trip a couple of times, and it is well worth the excitement as the waves may crash over the afterdeck while boarding!

Metal detectors and barbeques are strictly prohibited.

You can expect superb views along the seaboard from the Severn Bridges to North Devon, including the Mendip and Quantock hills, Exmoor, Flat Holm, and the Welsh Mountains, rare plants, unusual vegetation, Muntjac deer, gulls, cormorants, etc. You will also see Victorian cannon in their original settings, Second World War fortifications, a mediaeval priory, and other ruins.

Depending on Trust volunteers, there is also a snack bar at the visitor centre - the availability of this will be confirmed later.

We will finalise jobs and advise what you will need to bring nearer the time. You will have plenty of time to explore the island and relax on this unique nature reserve, and of course do the caches on the island too.

Prices will be £25 each for adults, £12.50 each for children (5 - 16 yrs).

Please register your "will attend" log with numbers and we will contact you individually to arrange payment once we can confirm we have enough numbers to make the charter viable.

If you have any questions, then please contact Icarus.

Booking information
All bookings must be made using the form available here (Download form) and must be sent with your cheque or postal order to the UK Mega address shown on the CITO booking form and not directly to the Trust.

Please use this form only for this CITO event, and ensure it is fully completed. Incomplete forms will have to be returned and you may lose your place.

A completed booking form and payment must be received before the event day as a full passenger list has to be prepared to satisy fire regulations and Health & Safety requirements.

I will be emailing everyone that has posted 'will attend' with these booking details.

Many thanks..... Paul (Icarus.)
