Apua (Secret Island in Hawaiian) is one of the most
sacred areas on the island of Oahu to the Hawaiian People. It is
where Hokulea was born and the location of the 800 year old Moli'i
Fish Pond.
This year we are excited to
announce that the Hawaii Geocachers will be partnering with
Kualoa Ranch,
the City and County of Honolulu and the Kualoa
Community to clean up one of the most beautiful half miles of beach
anywhere in the world.
Like past events, CITO 2009 cannot be a success without the
entire Geohana helping put it together and getting the word out.
Special thanks to Da Hui, Kona Coffee, Tomita and Y Crew, and DK
for stepping forward and volunteering some energy and time to this
event. Please put a watch on this page as it will be updated
frequently with new details. Here are the basics for your
calendar:
Where: Secret Island - Kualoa
Park
When: May 3, 2009 9:00am to 1:00pm
What: 2009 CITO Potluck Event
This year the event will be co-hosted by
Menehune Man and
Team Geoblast. Here's some items that you
can bring to help out.
- Gardening gloves. To save waste we are asking everyone to bring
their own gloves this year.
- Long Sleeves and Pants. Depending on where you will be working,
you may come in contact with bugs, branches, and hopefully a lot of
sun.
- Rakes (leaf and turf) and Pruning Shears
- Change of clothes and swimwear
- A dish to share at the potluck
- A prize for the raffle
- Personal watercraft
- Camera
- A "can do" attitude!
We will be upholding some
now time honored traditions this year. We humbly ask for your
participation and input for the 2009 "Best of Oahu" Cache Awards.

Note: Some concerns have been raised about us cleaning up
private property that is controlled by Kualoa Ranch, a "for profit"
company. As mentioned, we are partnering with both City and County
and Kualoa Ranch and we have asked each one of them to provide us
areas that need our help. We will allocate our available manpower
to address those areas and there will be work on State, City and
County, and Ranch controlled land. Jeff and I would like to assure
everyone that we will not be cleaning up the commercial picnic
facility for Kualoa Ranch. None of the trash we will pick up is out
there as a result of their operation. It is mostly illegal dumping,
campsites, and flotsam.
