Hesperia Historical Sites - Monument #8,#9.
One of a series of 13 High Desert Historical Monuments which are
compliments of
the Hesperia Recreation and Park District's
Historical Preservation Committee.
"Summit Train Station - 1880's"
"The station was first named in 1887.
This important
railroad center began its decline in 1967 and no longer
exists.
Here for over half
a century, mighty steam engines thundered by
in their battle to
cross the menacing Cajon Pass.
A few failed to
make it."
"Elliot Ranch -
1927"
"Elliot Ranch is
just south of this point.
It is the thirty
acre homestead of William and Lena Elliot built in 1927.
The family with
eight children truly lived frontier lives in wilderness
surroundings.
Between 1830 and
1855 thousands of stolen horses and mules were driven
through the future
Elliot Ranch en route to Utah for reselling."
The Monument
and Cache are located across the street from the popular
"Cleghorn"
OHV Riding area.
Please use
