This cache is located at Grays Eddy along the Armstrong Trail not far from the village of Mahoning.
Old Village of Gray's Eddy
Gray's Eddy was a small village in Madison Twp. In 1840, Oliver Gray built the first house and Robert Thompson built and owned a store, a hotel, and a warehouse. Freight was delivered here consistently until the completion of the Allegheny Valley Railroad. At this site, there are the remains of a stone arched culvert, cut stonewalls and beautiful waterfall features This beautiful section is located along the Mahoning North section of the Armstrong Trail between Templeton and Hooks Station.
(Info taken from The Armstrong Trail Web Site www.armstrongtrail.org)
Bring your bicycle or plan on hiking from the Templeton Boat Launch. It is aprox. 1.75 miles along the Armstrong Trail from here. The parking coordinates for the boat launch are N 40 55.152 W 079 27.800. I have rated the terrain rating a little on the high side because the last 500' to the cache is rocky & steep. May not be suitable during Winter months due to ice & snow. The cache is a Lock-n-Lock container only large enough for small trade items.
This is a popular hunting area so be aware of the hunting seasons and wear blaze orange.
Congratulations to Hunters Quest on their FTF!
