Am Rauen Berg
Der mittlere Steinbruch am Rauen Berg steht bei diesem Earthcache
stellvertretend für die drei Basaltsteinbrüche im Raum
Brauerschwend. Im unteren wird noch heute Basalt abgebaut, eine
Besichtigung ist nur unter Anmeldung möglich. Der obere Steinbruch
am Rauen Berg ist auf Grund von Steinschlag und anderen Gefahren
für Besucher gesperrt.
Dieses Geotop wurde vom Vulkan Vogelsberg hervorgebracht.
Geotope sind erdgeschichtliche Bildungen der unbelebten Natur, die
Erkenntnisse über die Entwicklung der Erde und des Lebens
vermitteln. Sie umfassen Aufschlüsse von Gesteinen, Böden,
Mineralien und Fossilien sowie einzelne Naturschöpfungen und
natürliche Landschaftsteile. Dabei kann es sich um natürliche oder
vom Menschen geschaffene Aufschlüsse handeln, um Landschaftsformen
oder um Erscheinungen, die das Wirken geologischer Kräfte und
Spuren des fossilen Lebens zeigen.
Alle drei Steinbrüche zeigen dicke Basaltsäulen aus Basanit mit
Olivineinsprenglingen.
Als Basanit bezeichnet man ein dem Basalt eng verwandtes Gestein
mit sehr großen Gehalten an Foiden und Olivin.
Foide: In sehr basischen Gesteinen reicht der Silizium-Gehalt
(Halbmetall) oft nicht aus, um zusammen mit Kalium, Aluminium und
Natrium Feldspäte zu bilden. Es entstehen dann die sogenannten
Feldspatvertreter (Feldspatoide) / Foide
Olivin: Olivin wird in ultramafischen vulkanischen Gesteinen
gefunden. Ultramafisch ist ein Begriff, der zur Definition von
vulkanischem Gestein verwendet wird. Mit ihm gibt man an, dass
dieses Gestein einen hohen Eisen- und Magnesiumgehalt hat. Das "ma"
steht für Magnesium, das "f" für ferrum, das lateinische Wort für
Eisen. Olivin hat einen hohen Schmelzpunkt und ist das erste
Mineral, das von einem mafischen Magma auskristallisiert.
Um diesen Cache zu loggen sende die Antwort zu folgender
Frage

Such die geschwärzte Stelle vor Ort (etwa in der Mitte des
Steinbruchs)
und teile mir mit, in welchem Winkelbereich in etwa die
Basaltsäulen verlaufen!
Ausgehend von 0° aufwärts!!!

Am Rauen Berg
The central quarry “am Rauen Berg” stands with this
Earthcache representatively for the three basalt quarries in the
area Brauerschwend. In the lower this very day basalt is reduced,
an inspection is possible only under registration. The upper quarry
“am Rauen Berg” is closed for visitors due to of
falling rocks and other dangers.
This “Geotop” was brought out of the volcano
“Vogelsberg”.
“Geotope” are earth-history formations of inanimated
nature, which obtain realizations over the development of the earth
and the life. They cover explanations of rocks, grounds, minerals
and fossils as well as individual nature creations and natural
landscape parts. It can act around natural or of humans created
explanations, around landscape forms or around features, which show
a working of geological forces and traces of the fossil life.
All three quarries show thick basalt columns of basanite with
olivineinclusions.
Basanite is to be termed as a basalt closely related rock with very
large contents of feldspathoids and olivine.
Foide: In very alkaline rocks the silicon content (metalloid) is
not often sufficient in order to form feldspaths together with
potassium, aluminum and sodium. Then the so-called feldspath
representatives (feldspathoids) / foide develop
Olivine: Olivine is found in ultramafic volcanic rocks. Ultramafic
is a term, which is used to the definition of volcanic rock. With
him one indicates that this rock have a high iron and magnesium
content. "ma” stands for magnesium, the "f" for ferrum, latin
word for iron. Olivine has a high fusion point and is the first
mineral, which crystallizes of a mafic magma.
