Geocache Description:

This cache was originally published in honor of PI DAY, 2009. It was originally a 2-stage multi but logistical difficulties (and perhaps, some vandalism) have consPIred to transform it into a regular ole' puzzle cache.

Pi Day (www.piday.org) is a special day in the lives of many a geek. Pi represents the relationship between a circle’s diameter (its width) and its circumference (the distance around the circle). With the use of computers, Pi has been calculated to over 1 trillion digits past the decimal. Pi is an irrational number meaning it will continue infinitely without repeating. The Greek letter p, often spelled out pi in text, was adopted for the number from the Greek word for perimeter, first by William Jones in 1707, and popularized by Leonhard Euler in 1737.

THIS piece of Pi is not at the above coordinates.

Where is it? It’s as easy as pi to find!

1. Johnny bakes a pie of diameter 10 inches. Find the surface area of the top.

2. Hungry from all of the baking, Johnny takes a big slice of surface area 11.4 inches from the pie. Find the angle of the slice.

Each answer is two digits. Round up where applicable.

The cache is at:

N 40 26.7(Surface Area)

W 074 57.9(Angle)

A small parking area is marked by signs for NJ Conservation. You are looking for a regular-sized box which contains 2 varieties of pi (non-edible, unfortunately.) Please take only one as supplies are limited. After they’re gone, they’re gone (until next pi Day!) There is also an unusual collection of swag. Please trade evenly, up, or not at all!

You can check your answers for this puzzle on GeoChecker.com.

Note: We strongly discourage attempting the final stage on a rainy day or in muddy conditions.
