Geocache Description:

When someone mentions the Oregon Trail most people instantly think of the famous pioneer trail from Independence, Missouri to Oregon City,  Oregon..   Not I!  When I hear the phrase "Oregon Trail" my thoughts turn to a wilderness region of New York located in the Adirondacks between Speculator and Stony Creek.  This is where New York's Oregon Trail is located.  It is a 5.5 mile trail running from Baldwin Springs to rout 8 passing North Bend and Cod Pond along the way.

There is ample parking at both ends of the trail  if you would like to do a through hike.  During the winter this is a snowmobile trail and West Stony Creek road is not plowed.  The parking lot on the Rt8 end is kept plowed out all winter.  I have included both parking spots as additional waypoints.

This is a nice easy hike with little elevation change from start to finish.  As a hiking trail it is poorly marked but the snowmobile clubs have done a much better job marking the trail so just follow the snowmobile trail markers and signs.

The cache is an ammo can located near the snowmobile bridge that carries the Oregon Trail (snowmobile trail C4) over Stewart Creek at North Bend.   Its not on, in or under the bridge but it is close by and is winter friendly.
