Geocache Description:

An easy find on a gun at the local RSL.
Due to the temporary nature of pens and pencils in my geocaches
BRING YOUR OWN WRITING IMPLEMENT!!!

I was hunting down RSL War Artefacts/Memorabilia by MADSTARS and found this rather rustic Quick Firing 25 Pounder Field Gun in front of the Nollamara RSL.

This gun has been placed here in remembrance of the servicemen and servicewomen of Nollamara and the surrounding area who served Australia and it's allies in time of war. Please treat this area with respect and take a moment or two to reflect on their service, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

MADSTARS offers extra points for his cache if the finder also places a cache on the War Artefact, so I had come equipped for just such an eventuality. After a quick saturation check (nothing within 1300 metres by my calculation) I hid a magnetic key container containing only a logbook somewhere in the gun. You will need to bring your own writing implement.

Update 16 Aug 22
The cache is now a magnetic Eclipse mint tin, with a log book, Finder's Cards, two pencils and a pencil sharpener. It is placed in line with the gun barrel, forward and up from what appears to be a tie rod.

I agree with MADSTARS on the importance of introducing our children to the RSL's and telling them what the men and women of the armed services did for us and our country, and the freedom we enjoy today. I look to those geocachers who hunt in company with their children and/or grandchildren to further this aim, so that they too Will Remember Them.

Lest We Forget.

Update 16 Mar 09 - I've increased the Terrain to 1.5 in response to the log by urch. I had tossed up whether a wheelie could manage the hunt and went for the "Yes" by a narrow margin, but I'm happy to change it. If any wheelchair cacher can confirm either way I'd appreciate it.
