Historical Preservation Committee.
"Hesperia's Original Water Source - 1886"
#6
In 1886, a rock
monument was placed near here by the Hesperia Land and
Water
Company. Required
by law, the monument gave notice that 5,000 miners
inches
of water per minute
was to be taken from this point for use in Hesperia.
Enough water for
500,000 people. This blessing of ample water assured
non-stop
growth for the ten
homes soon to be served by the Land and Water Company.
The placing of the
first monument legally assured Hesperia of having water.
The placing of this
second monument here is a Thank You to those
who had foresight
to protect Hesperia's water source."
"Atongai Indian Village - Prehistoric"
#7
"A prehistoric
Indian Village call Atongai once existed here in 1776.
Tamea Padre Garces
visited this settlement where in 1889 mission native
converts began
building a place for Christian Worship.
Their effort died
when they were killed by Mojave Warriors."
