Before lifting skirts became all the rage. Before hiding nano
caches camo'd to match their surroundings became the thing to do.
Before people had to hide a cache in every single little greenish
spot even if it means there might be garbage around. Back before
you drove a car a tenth of a mile and got out of the car to walk 5
to 10 steps to find something hidden in a bush. If those are the
kinds of things you like to do then this cache probably isn't for
you. Back in the early years of geocaching, you had to hike to find
a cache. This is one of those old time caches. This one is for
those that like to get out and see what Mother Nature has to offer.
You are going to have to pay to get this one. It is located in
Wekiwa Springs State Park. At the time of publication the entry
rate was $5.00 per car. There are several trail heads, depending on
how far you want to walk. The posted terrain rating was from the
Sand Lake parking area, using the White trail. In fact there may
even be a way to not pay anything if you have a kayak or canoe.
There are a few river landings along Rock Springs Run. Pick the
right one and it might be just a short walk.
If you are hiking don't spend all your time looking at your GPS.
Pay attention to your surroundings and you might just see something
like this.
Rock Springs Run
Stop to take some photos. Then keep walking. This time of year
it is pleasant out there. The day this was hidden there weren't a
lot of bugs, maybe a couple of ticks at a spot a half mile away.
But come prepared. Where this one is located I suspect certain
times of the year it may have quite a few 'toes and ticks and them
nasty little chiggers.
A view near the cache location.
When you get near this place you should wake up and switch to
geocaching mode. You are looking for a tethered (hopefully) ammo
can painted camo by CHEF I believe. It was a stocked gift from
Turtletoes and CHEF for Bob's Birthday. Yes they do have some ammo
cans. I added an FTF prize and dropped a geocoin in the container
just before placing it in its hiding spot. One thing I don't
remember... did they supply a pen? So Be
prepared bring your own writin' stick.
Coords were bouncy so I have given you a hint, but you really
shouldn't need it.
Good Luck .. and welcome back to the old way.
