BIG BEAR Vista Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

MtnMike: Just yards from the 19 miles of new trails that BLM and Whiskeytown will have constructed this year. This is being archived because of a complaint by the land owner. . . .

It is a beautiful little spot. I am sad that Big Bear's cache is no longer here, but it was fun while it lasted. This ridge will be paralleled by the new trail already constructed and/or flagged by BLM, to the west.

Cache on.

Geocache Description:

“Big Bear Vista” A Mtn adventure completing a quartet of caches that dot the ridge south of Mule Mountain, and where a Big Bear, whether the animal or cacher, might like to sit and view the geo world below.

I have seen bears at the Mule Mountain trail summit, but never here. The Big Bear that you will most likely see at this spot is the caching type who has visited nearly 5500 caches to date. Having found an archived cache of his above Middletown Park, Bear offered me the site. That generous offer got me thinking about a site a little higher and a dedication of sorts. This is a spot that always makes one stop and look. Why not, it is the high spot of this ridge, south of Mule Mountain.

One great route is via the BLM trails coming off of Mule Town Road, via “Go Bear Go” or “Princess Colombine.” These lead to an abandoned Jeep road that ends at the ridge.

Coming via “Cheaterrick vs. Chuck Nores” is steeper and will lead you past “Alive” via a ridge that bicycle riders call Dead Man’s Drop. I have ridden down this, never up.

There is BLM land that opens onto Placer that would be very direct to “Alive” but I have never attempted this route. Trail??? If you find one, please let me know a waypoint or two.

Coming from Middletown Park, “Crowshoot’s Hilltop Vista” is spectacular. Another route where some begin their journey is the end of Secluded Valley road.

Thank you Kanaka for opening my eyes to the Princess Ditch trail and the history of Mule Town Road. Hopefully, as more travel this side of Mule Mountain, the developed trails will one day join with the Swasey network. I have heard of a trail that once began from the south side of Mule Mountain and passed around to the east, ending at the pass. Exploring that route will have to wait. . . .

Camo’d Nalgene contains: FTF Bandana and a Pathtag - PLEASE MOVE THIS ALONG.

Congrats Gramps Posse FTF and BIG BEAR STF, both in a torrential downpour. 3 inches in one hour and up to 9 inches in west Redding. Wow, I thought the rain I rode through in placing the cache was bad. You guys are crazy. . .aren't we all?

Carpe Diem, Carpe Geocachiem. . .MtnMike
