Leetown Cemetery Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

NYBigfoot: I was not really ever happy with the final location of the container. I had a great spot originally that was out of view of any muggle neighbors. I then had to move it as it clearly violated geocaching.com's cache placement rule (528 feet from another cache). The last spot was my only option but it was in clear view of a nearby house. It was never my attention to place a cache so that my fellow cachers would feel uncomfortable. After reading the last log below, I obviously put that cacher in an uncomfortable situation. I have already picked up the cache and have removed it from the cemetery. I will find a new home for it soon. Thanks everyone.

Geocache Description:

Cache is located in the Leetown Cemetery on Leetown Road. It is NOT in the rock wall but right in front of it. You really can't miss it. There is no need to move any rocks or anything.

You are looking for an ammo can that can hold lots of goodies. I am placing two of my new travel bugs inside. I have even included a list of people, complete with dates, that are buried there. There are 96 graves in total (hard to believe that there are that many. You'll see when you get there.) with the earliest one having died in 1790. This is one of the most overgrown cemeteries that I have ever been in. It is actually a shame. One of the neighbors, to the right of the cemetery, said that the boy scouts came there once a few years ago to clean it up. Sadly, they or no one else for that matter ever came back. Feel free to pick up some garbage on your way out. Trust me, there is plenty in there.

This cache, along with many other of its type that I have placed recently, focuses on older, nearly forgotten burial plots of Dutchess County. The goal of these caches is not necessarily the length of the walk nor the difficulty of the find, but rather a simple reverence for those who came before us to shape our area.

Given this cache's venue and the need to show proper respect for it, there will be NO DIGGING REQUIRED to locate the final cache container. It is NOT located in the rock wall and is a safe distance away from any gravestone. Please DO NOT engage in any behavior that might even POSSIBLY be construed by the locals as improper, disrespectful, or sacrilegious toward the grave sites or the general area. Please leave everything (the cache as well) BETTER than it was before you arrived. Since the cemetery is nestled between two houses and the cache is close to a house, it is imperative that you remain as quiet as possible and be as respectful as possible. Please take a walk around and check out some of the old stones.

Parking for the cemetery will be at the Leetown Park that is located about 100 yards away. Do not park on the road next to the cemetery. I have added the parking area as a waypoint, even though you wont need it. Please check out the cache, GENERAL LEE'S HIDEAWAY, which is located within a few feet of the parking area.
