Geocache Description:

Burgess is a part of the Butler County Ghost Town Series. . It is a neat area with what is left of a bridge that supported a branch of the old St. Loius and San Francisco Railroad. Burgess was a stop on that route. You are looking for a cammoed match container.

The map below was taken from the Digitized maps library at WSU. It is a map dating to 1887.

Columbia is the first town in Butler county that appears on a map dating to 1856. Later maps dating from 1857 show Chelsea and El Dorado, with Chelsea having the larger population.  As you can see in this zoomed in view there were a number of ghost towns dotting the map no longer on current maps.  The name above and coordinates take you to a spot near the location on the map.

You may read about Butler county by clicking on the link The History of Butler County. The book was first published in 1916. It was written by Vol. P. Mooney. The copyright has since expired and it is now free domain.
