Geocache Description:

For more information on what you'll see at the preserve, as well as a trail map, visit: LANCASTER CONSERVANCY

This ribbon-like Lancaster County Conservancy site in Manor Township meanders along the shoreline of the Susquehanna River and features a summit that offers breathtaking vistas. It’s a great location to watch for bald eagles, vultures, ospreys, hawks, egrets, gulls, geese, and swans.

The birds rest and feed on the nearby Conejohela Flats year round. The ample supply of fish and birds is the reason Susquehannock Indians chose to live and hunt in the area hundreds of years ago.

After observing majestic birds circling on updrafts or gracefully diving toward the water for fish, hike through the deciduous forest, the world’s largest pawpaw (trees with short, banana-like fruit) patch, sassafras trees and groves of oak, maple and sweet birch.

Turkey Hill Trail is full of spectacular vistas of the Susquehanna. Sections of the forest are comprised of a variety of mature hardwoods common in secondary successional habitats.

The world's largest pawpaw patch north of the 39th Latitude is just a 10 minute hike from the northern trailhead. Also, there is a large variety of birds and other fauna found on the property. The abundance of sassafras, oaks, and maples make this a spectacular fall foliage hike. The trailhead starts at Wissler's Run and moves along the ridges up to Chestnut Grove Natural Area.
The trail parallels the flat Enola Low Grade Trail which runs along the river.

The ammo can geocache is up the hill and further from the trail than most of the Conservancy's geocaches. Approach from below and not above.

Directions to the Turkey Hill Overlook Trail:

The Turkey Hill Trail is located in Manor Township. Park at the northern end of the Manor Township portion of the Enola Low Grade Trail at 2501 River Road, Washington Boro, PA. There is a brown kiosk near the northern end (closest to entrance) of the parking lot. The trail starts behind the kiosk. It is blazed blue. Link is a trail map

NOTE: The Lancaster Conservancy does not allow the public to hide geocaches on lands it protects. If you would like to work with the Conservancy to place additional geocaches, please contact us at above link
