In addition to all the other great caches in Hoffman Hills
Recreation area I wanted to place a cache at our favorite spot, the
observation tower! Dunn County probably isn't the first spot you
would think of for expansive views, but with the Elk Mound castle
and here at the Schubert Tower you get 2 of the best views in
Western Wisconsin.
Greg Schubert was a volunteer who's life ended prematurely. This
tower and the plaque next to it are a tribute to him. The questions
below can be answered from the plaque and also by climbing to the
top of the 60 foot tower.
Final can found at:
44.5A.BCD
91.46.E4F
A:Month that Schubert died
B:Second number of his age when he passed away.
C:Last number of the year Schubert died minus 2.
D:First number of his age at death minus 2.
E: elevation at the top of the tower is _ _ _ _ feet. What is the
2nd number? (use your GPS to get the elevation)
F:There are _ _ ROWS of boards that make up the floor of the top
level. What is the 2nd number?
Once info is gathered the cache should be about .1 mile away
down the trail. The trails here are open for hiking in the summer
and groomed for skiing in Winter. If searching in Winter make sure
to stay off the groomed trails. Park closes at 9pm.
Geocaches placed in State Rec areas require the use of a
notification form. Form has been submitted to the West central
Regional Headquarters.
