Etruschi in Maremma #2 - Necropoli di Val Beretta

La necropoli di Val Beretta è costituita da circa settanta tombe a camera con tumulo, delle quali, solo una ventina sono visitabili. In tempi recenti, la necropoli è stata abbandonata al proprio destino, tanto è vero che anche il cartello sulla strada delle collacchie che la indicava, è stato eliminato. I tumuli, quando sono conservati, variano tra i 10 e i 20 metri di diametro e si presentano delimitati da lastre di arenaria e calcare infisse nel terreno. Il dromos d'ingresso, non sempre in asse con la camera interna, è talvolta lastricato. Le camere quadrangolari sono seminterrate, costruite con blocchi di arenaria e calcare locali. La copertura è a falsa volta, parzialmente conservata in pochi casi. All'interno delle camere sono riconoscibili le lastre di sostegno dei letti funebri, o ,in alternativa, un tratto rettangolare di lastricato con la stessa funzione. Le porte conservate hanno stipiti inclinati, pesante architrave e grossa pietra di chiusura. Le tombe dovevano essere segnalate da cippi, consaervate solo in qualche caso. Le tombe si datano a partire dal VII secolo a tutto il V secolo a.C. Nel IV e III secolo alcune tombe sono state riutilizzate, in genere con sepolture nel dromos.

1)Parcheggia l'auto alle coordinate N 42 47,767 E 10 49,695 (Vedi foto PARKING)
2)La necropoli è semi-recintata per pascolo di 2 cavalli. La casa che troverai seguendo il sentiero è disabitata. Prestare attenzione.
3)Entra nella necropoli dal punto N 42 48,014 E 10 49,976

The necropolis of Val Beretta consists of around seventy tombs mound with a camera, of which only a dozen are open to the public. In recent times, the necropolis has been abandoned to their fate, so much so that even the sign on the road Collacchie indicated that it was removed. The mounds, where they are stored, vary between 10 and 20 meters in diameter and are surrounded by slabs of sandstone and limestone stuck in the ground. The dromos input, not always in line with the inner chamber, is sometimes paved. The basement rooms are rectangular, built with blocks of local sandstone and limestone. The tombs date from the seventh century to the entire fifth century BC. In the IV and III century some tombs were used, usually with burial in dromos.

1) Park your car at coordinates N 42 47767 E 10 49695 (See photos PARKING)
2) The necropolis is semi-fenced for 2 horses. The house you'll find along the trail is uninhabited. Be careful.
3) Enter the necropolis from the point N 42 48,014 E 10 49,976
